Postgraduate Workshops in Genetics

At ANU we run a series of short workshops for graduate students and professionals from Australia and overseas to upgrade their skills in key emerging fields of genetics. For example:

Methods for Investigating the Population Genetics of Micro-organisms

This workshop on analytical methods relevant to the epidemiology and population genetics of micro-organisms, will be offered by David Gordon and Celeste Linde (Australian National University) for Graduate Students and Scientists and held at the Research School of Biology, Botany and Zoology, Australian National University, Canberra, Tuesday 6 October to Friday 9 October 2009.

Topics to be covered will include: (1) Molecular markers (2) Population differentiation statistics (3) Gene flow and migration rates (4) Detecting and quantifying recombination (5) Population assignment methods, and  (6) Determining genotype relatedness. The course will be a combination of mini-lectures, tutorials and computer based practical sessions and is designed to ensure that participants fully understand the procedures involved and the interpretation of analytical results.

Population Genetic Analysis

This national graduate workshop is offered by Rod Peakall (ANU College of Science) and provides a unique blend of theoretical knowledge, laboratory skills, and computing techniques - arming students with the intellectual tools they will need to design, carry out and interpret molecular genetic analysis.
