Undergraduate Studies in Genetics
At ANU students have the opportunity to study a wide variety of genetics courses within a variety of different degree options. Most students interested in genetics would undertake a Bachelor of Science degree, however, depending on your particular interests a number of options exist, as listed below:
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) is a three-year degree in which mostly science subjects are studied. Within this program a wide variety of genetics courses are available and you have the option of either completing two science majors (e.g. "Genetics" and "Ecology and evolution" or "Genetics" and "Neuroscience") or a double major in Genetics.
- Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours), is an exciting research-focused degree at the ANU offered through the College of Science. This degree is for intellectually ambitious students who want to study at the highest level. Every student receives intensive individual attention from an academic supervisor.
- Bachelor of Medical Science, a three year degree which focusses on the modern medical sciences.
- Bachelor of Biotechnology, a three year degree offered through the School of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
- Students may also wish to study genetics within a combined degree. This would involve a four year degree (e.g. Science & Commerce) or a five year degree (e.g. Science & Law) in which courses are studied from both fields. Students thinking about undertaking a combined degree should get specialist academic advice.
